In 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha began to pave the way for a dynamic change in history through sisterhood, scholarship and service to all mankind. While the Sorority’s pillars remain the same, Alpha Kappa Alpha is constantly challenging herself to continue helping those of the community.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Iota Lambda Chapter History
The Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc., the Iota Lambda chapter was chartered under the ETA TAU OMEGA Chapter on the campus of the University of Florida on May 17, 1975 by a group of young women known as the “25 Pearls of Distinction.” These illustrious ladies enhanced the campus with their spirit of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. The chapter prides itself on campus leadership and scholarship, innovative programming, and maintaining an integral contribution in the surrounding Gainesville, Florida community. They proudly paint the University of Florida campus salmon pink and apple green!
Their principle focus of uplifting the community through service, philanthropic efforts and scholarly deeds. By effectively implementing Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Global Leadership Through Timeless Service Program, the chapter continues to leave a legacy of societal enrichment. They enhance the world in which we live by efficiently programming for the Six Initiatives: Emerging Young Leaders, Health, Global Poverty, Economic Security, Social Justice and Human Rights, and Internal Leadership Training for External Service.
